Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus
Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus (d. 245 – d. 312) was the Roman emperor who served between 20 November 284 and 1 May 305. It established an autocratic government. It laid the groundwork for the second period of the Roman Empire known as Dominate, Tetrarchy, or "the later period of the Roman Empire" (as opposed to the Principate system created by Augustus). Diocletian's reforms fundamentally changed the structure of the state and ensured the economic and military balance of the empire, thus maintaining the integrity of the empire for another century.
